Taking the articles published in the Journal of Research on Education for Ethnic Minorities from 2015 to 2024 as the research object, this study adopts bibliometric methods and content analysis. It utilizes the visualization software CiteSpace 6.4.R1 to analyze multiple dimensions including publication volume, contributing authors, research institutions, and keywords. The knowledge mapping of research hotspots and their intellectual bases reveals that the annual publication volume of the journal has remained stable and demonstrates significant academic influence. Multiple scholarly communities have emerged, with increasing awareness of collaboration. Contributing institutions are predominantly higher education institutions. Research hotspots are mainly concentrated in four domains: “Language, Culture, and Value Guidance,” “Regional Development and Educational Governance,” “School Systems and Talent Cultivation,” and “International Comparison and Experience.” Citation frequency and download counts serve as key indicators of the quality and impact of published articles. Within the knowledge base of research hotspots, studies on the formation mechanisms, functions, and evolution of the consciousness of the Chinese national community, as well as studies on the logical levels and practical pathways of consolidating this consciousness in schools and promoting such education among university students in ethnic regions, are particularly significant classical works.Based on these findings, it is suggested that China should strengthen research on ethnic minority education, especially in underexplored areas; enhance the construction of research teams, with particular emphasis on the participation of families, schools, and communities; improve and standardize research methodologies; and further expand the scope of research across ethnic groups and regions.
